1. Crayon Candle
Material Required: Wax, wicks, old crayons, and containers
Direction:
- Grate or chop the crayons into the smallest pieces.
- Melt the wax until clear.
- Pour hot wax into the container with the broken pieces of crayon.
- Using a craft stick, stir and allow the crayon to melt.
- Take a wick and place it in the jar and pour the wax.
- Add essential oils if you want to have a scented candle.
- Put it in the fridge to set.
- Once the layer is cool and firm, start again with the next crayon and the next layer.
- Continue until you run out of room for layers.
- Once the last layer is set, your candle is ready to be packed and gifted!
2. Thumbprint Heart Platter
Material Required: White serving platter or card-stock, multi-surface paint, permanent pen
Direction:
- Decide how you want to lay the fingerprints and text.
- Carefully dip your child’s thumb in the red paint and make two prints to form a heart shape.
- Use the permanent pen to write the name, date, and any other message on the card/ serving platter you would like.
3. DIY Soap
Material Required: Glycerine soap base, fragrance oil, soap colour, cookie cutters, mould, ribbon, bamboo skewer
Direction:
- Melt soap in a microwave.
- Add scent to it.
- You can add colours and additives like dry flowers, oatmeal, honey, etc., in this step.
- Pour into the mould and allow it to cool for around 15 minutes.
- Use a cookie cutter cut out the desired shape.
- Using a bamboo skewer, punch a hole in the soap.
- Tie a ribbon to soaps and place them in a basket.
- Voila! Your scented soap basket is ready!
4. Key Windchime
Material Required: Old keys, stick, string, acrylic paint
Directions:
- Paint your keys and stick.
- Tie a piece of string to the ends of the stick to have a way to hang it.
- Now, tie a piece of string to each key.
- Tie the keys closely so that they will chime when the wind blows them.
- Gift, hang, and enjoy!
5. Salt Dough Candle Holder
Material Required: Salt dough, craft paints, paintbrush, tea candles
Direction:
- Mix flour and salt in a larger bowl. Add water and knead.
- Knead the dough for 10 minutes until it’s not sticky.
- Now that you have your dough shape it with your fingers to accommodate a child’s hand.
- Press the kid’s hand on the dough to leave a handprint.
- Press down the candle in the dough in the centre of the palm.
- Once dry, let the kids paint their handprints.
- All done!
