Materials:

  • Coloured paper/plain paper/magazine pages
  • Scissors and glue
  • Pencil

Instructions:

  • Let’s make a ghost face! Start by taking two rectangular pieces of coloured paper, plain paper, or magazine pages.
  • Help your child fold each rectangle as if you were making a paper fan (folding over the paper a little at a time, alternating between the front side and back sides – this is called the accordion fold).
  • To bring more mobility to the paper, open the folds entirely of each fan to bring it back to the original rectangle.
    • Then, fold over each rectangle in half, opposite to the direction of the fan fold. (If you have folded the fan horizontally, then fold the now-opened rectangle in half vertically.)
  • Re-fold the fans, and fold each one in half.
  • Then, let your child glue the two together.
  • Tie a thin string around their centre to keep them in place.
  • Now, help your little one carefully spread out the folds. Glue the open ends together.
  • You should now have a circle that looks like this. This is the face and body of the ghost.
  • Next, let’s make the eyes and mouth. From black or dark paper, let your child draw and cut out two oval eyes and one big oval mouth. Paste them on the circle.
  • Lastly, let’s make two arms. Fold over a paper to make two layers, and draw the shape of a cartoon arm on it. Cut it out through the layers carefully.
  • Stick the arms on the back of the circle, so that they peep out from the sides.

Voila, your paper ghost is ready! Wasn’t this fun for your little one? You can make many other faces, too, such as cats, dogs, pumpkins, witches, etc!
