Age Range – 3 – 4 years

Primary Skills – Fine motor skills, sensorial skills

Materials:

  • Paper plate (if unavailable, use chart paper)
  • Wrapping paper/coloured paper/magazine pages
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Paints
  • Container
  • Sponge/big paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Marker (optional)

Instructions:

  • Let’s begin with making the body of the mouse. Take the paper plate (or, from a sheet of chart paper, cut out a small plate-sized circle), and observe the image below carefully so as to properly draw and cut out the face shape of the mouse.
  • Next, create some grey paint for the mouse body by mixing black and white paint in a container. Once it’s ready, give your child a sponge to dip in the paint and stamp it all over the paper body. Alternatively, he can also use a big, thick paintbrush. Let dry.
  • While the grey paint is drying, help your child make the ears, nose, eyes, and tail of the mouse. Use leftover wrapping paper or colourful magazine pages for these.
  • Referring to the image from step 1, cut out two large circles to make the ears by folding the paper into two layers and cutting through them.
  • Then, cut out a small circle to make a cute little nose, and draw and cut out a curved little tail.
  • From black or dark coloured paper, cut out a circular eye. Alternatively, your child can draw an eye directly on the paper body using a marker.
  • Now, all that’s left to do is help your child stick the features on the body! Stick one ear on the front side of the body, and stick the other on the back of the body. Paste the little nose on the tip of the face, the eye near the curve of the face, and the tail at the opposite end. (See image.)
  • Repeat this activity with different coloured features for a family of cute little paper mice!

Wasn’t that an engaging and creative activity? We’re sure you had as much fun as your little one!
