Primary Skills – Fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination

Materials:

  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Plain paper
  • Paints
  • Containers
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Marker
  • Glitter (optional)

Instructions:

  • First, trace the outline of the fish on a sheet of plain paper (see image for reference). Outline its head, body, fins, and tail. Don’t worry about it being perfect, just make sure it’s big enough for your child to stamp on!
  • Then, take two toilet paper rolls, and cut them vertically into two halves (see image for reference). To retain the shape of the semi-circle, put some tape between the two edges.
  • Next, take out three different colours of paint in separate containers (or in dollops on a large plate). Your child can choose any colour he likes!
  • If he likes, he can mix some glitter into the paints, to make the fish appear shiny.
  • Now, to get stamping! Show your child how to dip one end of the toilet roll’s semi-circle into one colour, and then how to stamp it on the fish body to make scales (see image for reference). Repeat this process with the other colours. Let it dry.
  • Once the scales are dry, your child can colour in the other elements of the fish body – the head, fins, and tail. Help him draw an eye on the face to complete the look!

Wasn’t that fun and creative?
