Age Range – 4 – 6 years

Primary Skills – Creativity, cutting, colouring

Materials:

  • Paper plate/chart paper
  • Plain paper/newspaper
  • Paints/crayons/sketch pens
  • Buttons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pencil

Instructions:

  • Let’s begin by making the circle for the wreath. If you are using a paper plate, help your child fold it in half and cut along the inside rim of the plate, thereby cutting out the inner circle. You will be left with the thick rim of the plate (see image below for reference).
  • If you are using chart paper, give your child a big plate to trace a big circle and a smaller plate to trace a smaller circle inside the big circle. Help him cut out the big circle first. Then, fold the circle in half, and help him cut along the tracing of the inner circle to get a thick circular wreath (see image below for reference).
  • Let your child paint or sketch the wreath in bright, cheerful colours. Let it dry.
  • While the wreath is drying, let’s get started on the flowers! Take a sheet of plain paper or newspaper, and help your child draw a simple flower head – in a round shape, draw circles for petals, and leave some space in the middle for a button (see image below for reference).
  • Your child can use paint, crayons, or sketch pens to colour the petal circles in bright, summery shades.
  • When the colours are dry, draw an outline around each flower head, and either help your child cut along the lines with safety scissors, or you can do it yourself (see image below).
  • Once the flower heads have been cut out, paste buttons on the middle spaces to complete the look. Let dry.
  • Lastly, paste the flowers around the wreath to complete the project!
  • If you want to hang it, get a nice colourful ribbon, make a bow, tie it around the wreath, and make a knot at the loose ends of the ribbon to hang it up on a nail or hook.

Isn’t that beautiful? We’re sure you thoroughly enjoyed it, too!
