Children tend to get bored if they remain indoors for most of the day. They either spend their day glued to the television or tiring their eyes on mobile phones. Your kids’ little challenging minds and muscles should be put to some use where they can utilise all their energy, ultimately leaving them to be stronger and, of course, a little sweaty.

  • Long Jump: Ask your kid to take a long jump and see how many lines they can jump over. Encourage them to try and beat their best score each time. Allow them to experiment with arms swinging vs arms behind their back.
  • Run and Jump: Now, ask your kid to take a running start and see if they can jump even further!
  • Jump Backwards: Increase the difficulty level by asking them to jump backwards. This can be tricky, but as a parent, show your full support, and your child will be hopping around like a kangaroo!
  • Hop: How far can your kid jump with one leg? Let’s find it out! You might want to help your child balance on one leg first and then ask them to hop using the same jumping technique.

Why is jumping helpful for kids?

Jumping in itself is a workout, and children can learn body control with the help of jumping. It also allows them to improve their posture and flexibility. Other benefits of jumping include stronger core muscles, a healthy heart, and better balance and coordination.

What is the importance of core muscle strength in children?

We all know that a tree needs a strong trunk to hold its branches up and withstand the environment, like strong winds and hot weather. Just like that, a child needs a solid core to participate in daily activities efficiently. Our body’s core refers to the muscles enveloping the abdomen, pelvis and back. Our core muscles maintain an upright posture while standing and sitting without support. Strong core muscles help control our fine motor skills, such as handwriting and participating in gross motor activities like school sports.

4. Peel Off the Tape

Kids love to explore things, especially when these things are lying on the floor! Take advantage of this habit and make a fun activity for your little ones. Stick tapes of different colours on the floor or carpet and ask your kid to peel off the particular colour tape for you. Once they are done peeling off, ask them to make a pattern using these tapes. This is a great activity to make your kids practise hand and finger strength.

What is the Importance of Hand and Finger Strength in Children?

Hand and finger strength are essential as it is required for everyday tasks like picking up things, writing, brushing and more. Muscle power of the hands and fingers increases as a child grows and participates in daily tasks, and the above activity will help them strengthen their hand and finger muscles.
