Primary Skills – Fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, creativity

Materials:

  • Coloured papers
  • Paper plate
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Instructions:

  • Let’s make the mosaic shell of the snail first. Give your child a paper plate, and help him to draw a spiral design on the inside of the plate using a pencil (see image for reference). Set it aside.
  • Now, to make the mosaics, draw a grid of squares on different coloured papers, and help your child cut them out with safety scissors. When you are finished, you should have many squares of different colours.
  • Next, take the paper plate on which the spiral is drawn. Your child can completely express his creativity and imagination by pasting the squares along the spiral outline! (See image for reference.) Encourage him to make colour patterns on the spiral.
  • Now, let’s make the body of the snail. From green coloured paper, draw and cut out a hot-dog shape, the width of which is bigger than the paper plate’s. If using plain paper or newspaper, paint the shape green after cutting it out.
  • Next, it’s time to glue the shell onto the body. Stick the back of the paper plate onto the snail’s body, such that the body peeps out from either side of the shell (see image for reference).
  • As a last step, draw and cut out long antlers from brown or black paper. Stick them on one end of the body to make a head, and complete the look by drawing on eyes and a mouth.

The mosaic snail is ready!
