Primary Skills – Fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, weaving, creativity

Materials:
- Black or white chart paper
- Coloured paper with rainbow colours (purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers
Instructions:
- To start with, help your child to draw a large fish on a piece of chart paper. Draw the head, mouth, body, and tail. Cut the entire shape out carefully.
- Next, fold the cutout in half, and snip some parallel lines horizontally from the fold (see image for reference). These will serve as the cuts for the paper weaving.
- Then, take the coloured papers. With the help of your child, cut out a long strip of each coloured paper. If you want to be precise, measure the length of the cut lines on the fish body, and together with your child, do some simple calculations to find out how much the width of each coloured strip should be, so that they can all fit comfortably.
- Once your strips are ready, it’s time to start weaving them through the cut lines. Take each strip, and help your child to put it carefully through the cuts. Repeat with all other strips.
- Cut the extra length of the strips on both sides into the shape of fins.
- Then, let your child paste those cut pieces onto the body of the fish to give it a colourful look.
- Lastly, either cut out and paste an eye for the fish or draw it on with a marker. If you have googly eyes at home, these will work as well!
The rainbow fish is ready!
