Primary Skills – Tracing, hand-eye coordination, self-expression

Materials:

  • Plain paper
  • Your child’s favourite toys (animals, cars, little people, etc.)
  • Pencils/sketch pens

Instructions:

  • This is a very simple activity, whose most important requirement is a space that gets a good amount of sunlight! This can be a porch, a balcony, or a well-lit room.
  • Help your child arrange his toys in a row on the floor. Make sure that the sunlight is falling well on them.
  • Arrange pieces of plain white paper behind each toy to ‘catch’ its shadow.
  • Then, ask your child to trace the shadow’s outline on the paper before the sun moves it. He can use a pencil, or a sketch pen if he’s feeling confident!
  • Repeat this with all the other toys. In the end, your child will have a colouring book of his favourite toys, and he can colour and decorate them in any way he likes!

Wasn’t that an enjoyable activity for your little one? What a simple way to create his very own colouring book!
