The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle For Children

Once upon a time, a little girl called Lucie lived in a small cottage near the hills. One day, while playing outside, she realised she had lost her handkerchiefs. Lucie was very upset because they were her favourite handkerchiefs, and she had been playing with them in the garden.

Determined to find them, Lucie set off on an adventure up the hill to search for her lost belongings. As she climbed higher, she spotted something white fluttering in the grass.

As Lucie looked around in awe, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle began to gather up some clothes from her washing basket. “Here are your handkerchiefs!” she said, holding them up proudly. “I’ve just finished washing them.”

“Oh, thank you! They look lovely!” said Lucie gratefully. “Would you like some tea?” asked Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle kindly.

Lucie nodded eagerly, and soon, they sat together at a small table, enjoying tea and biscuits while chatting about their adventures.

After their tea party was finished, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle said, “Now let’s get these clothes sorted out! I have many things to deliver back to their owners.”

Lucie offered to help, and together they packed up bundles of freshly laundered clothes into little sacks ready for delivery.

As they set off down the hill together, they met various animals along the way—Tabby Kitten received her mittens back, Peter Rabbit got his jacket back, and even Benjamin Bunny was delighted with his clean scarf!

With each delivery, Lucie felt happier and more connected to all her woodland friends. She realised how much joy it brought her to help others.

When they reached the bottom of the hill with only one little bundle left—her own clean clothes—Lucie turned to thank Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle once more but was astonished to see her running back up the hill without waiting for thanks or payment!

As she disappeared from sight, Lucie noticed how small Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle seemed now—covered in prickles! In that moment, she realised that Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle was not just any washerwoman; she was actually a hedgehog!
