The Story Of A Glass Of Milk For Children
In a small town, there lived a poor little boy who used to do odd jobs like selling different objects from door to door. The money he earned from those jobs was used to buy his daily food and pay his school expenses.
It was a usual day of selling items from house to house when he felt very hungry and sick. He was so famished that he couldn’t even walk any more steps. With enough strength, he decided to ask for food at a house in the neighbourhood. When the poor boy knocked on the door of a house, a beautiful young girl opened the door to his surprise.
With much hesitation, he requested the young girl for a glass of water. The boy said, “Can you please give me a glass of water?”
The pretty girl was taken aback after seeing the poor boy’s condition and understood how hungry he was. She said, “Sure, wait a minute.” She went into the kitchen, and instead of a glass of water as requested by the little boy, she brought him a glass of milk.
“Here, little boy. Drink it!” said the young girl.
The boy was astonished to see the glass of milk in front of him. He drank the milk and felt better than ever.
After drinking the milk, the boy thanked the kind-hearted girl and asked her, “How much do I owe you for this milk?”
“Oh dear, I don’t want any money for this.”, the girl replied softly. The boy thanked the compassionate girl from the bottom of his heart and then left the place.
Years passed by.
The young girl grew up into a beautiful grown woman. One day she fell severely ill and was taken to the hospital. There, she had some tests, which unfortunately revealed that she had a rare neurological disorder that required several treatments and great care for many months. She was hospitalised at one of the city’s best hospitals as her health deteriorated day by day.
Dr Kevin, a well-known neuro specialist, was assigned the girl’s case by the hospital. Dr Kevin found the girl’s illness hard to cure despite his extraordinary expertise. However, he did not give up.
The treatment took months. With determination and much perseverance, Dr Kevin successfully brought the girl’s ailment under control. The girl was finally cured of the disease after careful observation and medication.
Everyone in the hospital complimented the doctor for his successful work. But the girl had her own worries about the hospital bills. She thought to herself, “How will I pay for such an extensive treatment when I have only a little money of my own?”
The girl’s family did not leave her enough money that could possibly clear her extensive treatment and therapy in that reputed hospital.
Finally, the bill arrived. With shaking hands, she opened it and was astonished to see that the bill had been cancelled across. Beneath the amount, there was a note signed by her treatment doctor, Dr Kevin.
The note said, “Bill paid in full years ago with a glass of milk!”
The girl remembered the young boy she had helped years ago and felt happy.
