What Is Your Baby Observing And Learning During Monsoons?

Nature has a bounty of stimuli during monsoons. Your baby might be missing their stroller ride in the park but whether indoors or outdoors, there is a lot they can observe and learn during the monsoons. So make sure that you draw their attention to these unique monsoon elements, tell them stories or even sing songs and rhymes to make their imagination come alive.

Is It Sunny Or Cloudy?

What does your baby see when they look out of the window? It is the bright, yellow sun in the sky or are there dark clouds that have gathered? If your baby has developed visual senses and is able to look into a distance, they will be mesmerised by these observations while taking a peek out of the window.

Getting Wet And Staying Dry

When your baby is little, it is important to keep them protected from the rain. But when it’s pouring, you can take the opportunity to teach your baby about sensory experiences like wet and dry. Show them the many trees, leaves, plants, roads, cars and other such things from your window and point out how they are all getting wet in the rain. In contrast, bring to their attention that they are in the shelter of their home, so they are dry. They already experience getting wet while having a bath, however watching the entire landscape under heavy showers can be a whole new view to see.

Cool Climate Or Warm Weather

One of the best things about the monsoons is the cool evening breeze that brings down the heat and humidity and makes for very pleasant weather. While you’re enjoying this wonderful monsoon weather, make sure your baby observes it too. Show them the leaves or flowers flowing away with the gentle breeze, to introduce the idea of cool weather. As the weather fluctuates from humid to cool during the rainy season, you may notice your baby too, feeling warm or cold. Use these terms and talk to them about the weather. They may seem too little to register these concepts, but you can be sure they’re listening.

Raindrops On Roses

Don’t the vibrant colours in nature simply come alive after a heavy rainfall? Take your baby out for a stroll, with due caution, and let them experience the visual treat that nature has to offer. Simply exposing them to these beautiful views is going to serve as stimuli for visual development. Watch your baby take a keen interest in looking at all things bright and beautiful, focusing their vision on everything that catches their fancy, and developing their visual skills.

Listen To The Pitter Patter

Are you worried about it being too noisy for your baby to sleep peacefully with the constant pitter-patter on your roof? You’re in for some good news. The round of rainfall on the roof is a very trusted choice of white noise for inducing sleep. Let the heavy pouring soothe your baby to a calm sleep as they hear these natural sounds. While they are indoors, the sounds will also induce a number of imaginary ideas in your baby’s mind about the sound. While they’re awake and playing, draw their attention to the pitter-patter and let them enjoy it, associating it with their favourite rhymes.

Wonder What’s That Thunder?

Thunder is notorious for scaring the daylights out of people, not just babies who feel startled at sudden loud noises. Weather hazards are not to be taken lightly, but in the safety of your home, you can try to ensure that your baby doesn’t develop a fear of loud thunder. Hold them close, offer them lots of hugs, sing soothing songs and also add to the mix some fun songs about the rain and thunder, naturalising the phenomenon for your baby.
